Window grids (sometimes called grilles) are the decorative dividers that create the illusion that a window is divided into multiple panes of glass. San Diego homeowners interested in adding an extra element of architectural design to their replacement windows and doors will often choose to add grids as an option. In the replacement windows and doors we sell to our San Diego customers, the grids are placed in the insulating air space between the panels of glass in our dual-paned windows. This allows you to still have a smooth and easy-to-clean glass surface, both inside and out.

Grid Styles
The first option you have when it comes to selecting grids for your replacement windows and doors is the style of the grids themselves. They come in 5/8” flat pieces, as well as 5/8” and 1” sculptured pieces. A sculptured grid will give the grids more dimension. The larger 1” grids are best for larger replacement windows or patio doors.
Grid Patterns
You also have several grid pattern options to choose from in your replacement windows and doors. By far the most common is the Colonial pattern, which is the classic pattern that divides windows into equal parts. You can see windows with Colonial grid patterns throughout San Diego. They are a popular and attractive option for replacement windows and doors.
Less common, but still a great option, is the Perimeter pattern. This pattern is for homeowners who want grids, but also want to keep the center of the window more open so they have a more unobstructed view of the outdoors. The Perimeter pattern is sometimes called a Prairie grid and was originally used in homes built in the style of architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
The final grid pattern we offer is the Queen Anne pattern. Similar to the Perimeter pattern, Queen Anne offers a more unobstructed view than the Colonial pattern, with grids positioned toward the edges of the replacement windows and doors. This pattern is often seen in Victorian-style homes, but can be used in any style of San Diego home.
