As a company that sells and installs replacement windows in San Diego, we think that anytime is a good time to have new windows installed in your home, because there are just so many benefits to doing so. However, if you’re a homeowner who is on the fence about whether or not to make this type of investment in your home, here are five situations that make it an especially great time to buy new windows.
When Your House Isn’t Able to Maintain a Comfortable Temperature
San Diego is known for its mild weather, but we do get our share of hot summer days and cold winter evenings. When either of those occur, do you find yourself running your AC unit or your heater constantly? Or maybe you don’t even have a central heating and cooling system and just have to live with whatever temperature your house gets to on those days. Do you find yourself feeling uncomfortable in your own home at times because you’re too hot or cold? It doesn’t have to be this way!
New windows and doors can go a long way in helping your home maintain a comfortable temperature inside. Not so with old windows, which can allow an enormous amount of heat and cold transfer from the outside of your house to the inside—especially if there are gaps letting in drafts because of bent frames or from your house settling over time. If you feel drafts coming into your home through your windows, it is definitely time to consider new windows!
The energy-saving technology in today’s window and door products is, quite simply, amazing! When you go from old, single pane windows to modern dual pane windows made by a reputable manufacturer, there will be a noticeable difference in the comfort level of your home when it comes to temperature. When you stand by your new windows on a hot summer day, you won’t feel the heat coming through them like you would with your old windows, and consequently, your house won’t heat up as much. We have customers tell us that since installing their new windows and doors, they almost never have to use their air conditioner and heater anymore!
When It’s Too Loud Inside Your House
If it’s too loud inside your house due to the things going on inside your house, there’s not much replacement windows can do to help you, but if it’s noisy because of things happening outside, it’s time to consider replacing your windows. Maybe you live on a busy street, or near the airport or an elementary school. Or perhaps your neighbors or their pets are exceptionally loud. When you install new windows with sound suppression technology, it is amazing what a difference it can make!
The replacement windows we sell at BM Windows are designed to insulate your house not only from outside temperatures, but also outside noises. Do you want your house to feel quieter and more serene—more like a sanctuary? You should consider upgrading your windows. We even offer windows that you can upgrade with extra sound suppression technology if you live in a particularly noisy area.

When You Move into a New House
Many people buying a new-to-them house in San Diego will spend the first few months sprucing things up and making it feel like a home. They often do things like paint the walls, install new flooring, and update the fixtures. However, another good home improvement project to consider early on is replacing your home’s windows. New windows give your home an updated look—especially on the exterior, but they also come with the benefits mentioned above, such as improving your home’s energy efficiency and reducing the amount of outside noise that comes in.
We know you probably have limited home improvement dollars to spend on your new home, but we think replacement windows should definitely be on the top of your list!
When You’re Getting Ready to Sell Your Home
Maybe you were okay with living in a house with old windows, but potential buyers might not be. If you want your house to stand out in the San Diego real estate market, you may want to consider installing new windows and patio doors. Savvy buyers appreciate updates like new windows and doors, and according to real estate agents, homes with energy-saving updates often sell faster and for more money than otherwise comparable homes on the market.
You may be thinking, “Can’t the next owner just install new windows if they want them?” The answer is, “Of course they could,” but many buyers are looking for “turnkey” homes that are ready to move into and live in without having to do any work. By updating your home before putting it on the market, you will appeal to these types of buyers, who are often ready to pay a premium for a home that’s “done.”
When There Are Incentives Available
You can often find incentives, such as rebates and tax credits for making your home more energy efficient. This can help making installing replacement windows more affordable, without having to sacrifice the quality of your window and door products. We’ve included links to some of the more common rebates, tax credits, and special offers on our Resources page.
One thing we should mention here: watch out for other replacement window companies in San Diego offering “special deals.” In their advertising, these specials may sound amazing: “Buy 3 windows, get one free!” or “20% off any order of more than 10 windows!” Much of the time, these are just advertising gimmicks. When it comes down to the final quote, you likely won’t be saving much, if anything. They’ll just add to the price elsewhere in the quote. When you’re shopping for replacement windows in San Diego, make sure you get quotes from several different reputable companies for comparison. Look at what the quotes include so you can be sure you are comparing apples to apples. We have heard stories about other window companies in town that give a potential customer a seemingly great price on a house full of new windows, but don’t include the cost of the installation in the quote.
At BM Windows, we offer our customers honest, straightforward pricing on quality replacement windows and doors. We don’t use pricing gimmicks or high-pressure sales tactics in order to get homeowners to sign contracts with us. We never have and we never will.
