As a San Diego replacement window company that currently offers the Anlin brand of windows as one of our product offerings, we often get asked how they compare to Milgard windows. We understand why homeowners tend to ask this—Milgard is a popular brand that just about everyone has heard of. Many homeowners assume that because Milgard is well known, their products must be good. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. When compared to Anlin windows, Milgard products don’t even come close. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.
Recent Acquisitions of Milgard and Anlin
Milgard windows have never been known in the industry as high-quality products, but in late 2019, Milgard was bought out by MI Windows and Doors. MI Windows’ reputation is for making inexpensive, low-quality vinyl windows. This acquisition will almost certainly not elevate the quality of Milgard windows and may lower their quality even further as time goes on.
Anlin Windows was also recently acquired by a larger company—PGT Innovations. But unlike MI Windows and Doors, PGT Innovations is known as a premium product manufacturer.
Anlin vs Milgard: Durability
All windows look great initially. The glass is clean, the frames are shiny, and all of the mechanisms are in working order. Over time (often not much time), lesser quality windows start to break down. The locking mechanism may break, or the window may become difficult to open and close. White frames can start to look yellow, and darker frames start to fade. The seal in the glass may fail, causing the window to fog up.
Even in the highest-quality windows, an occasional manufacturing defect may occur, but in low quality windows, issues pop up much more frequently. Milgard products are notorious for having issues. A quick Google search into Milgard reviews will show you many homeowners who are extremely unhappy with their purchases. Their products just don’t tend to hold up well over time.

Anlin windows, on the other hand, are much more durable. Our San Diego replacement window company has been installing them for many years, and it is very rare that our customers call us back with issues. Anlin windows are made from high-quality materials and use superior construction techniques. On their window frames, you’ll find fusion welded corners for strength and durability. You’ll also find high-quality latches and locking mechanisms, smooth-gliding rollers for easy opening and closing, and a dual seal to help prevent seal failure.
Anlin vs. Milgard: Warranty
Milgard windows come with a lifetime warranty, while Anlin windows come with an industry-leading double warranty. A lifetime warranty means you are covered in the case of manufacturing defects for as long as you own your home. A double lifetime warranty can be transferred to a subsequent homeowner. You might be thinking, “A lifetime warranty is good enough for me,” and it may be, but you also have to consider how well a manufacturer honors their warranty.
Milgard does not have the best reputation for responding to warranty claims. It can be difficult to get in touch with anyone at the company, either by phone or by email, to make a claim. And then, it can be months before anyone comes out to investigate your claim. After all that, they may choose to deny your claim, saying the issue is due to an installation error.
In all our years working with Anlin, we’ve found them to be very responsive to warranty claims. If a window can’t be fixed, they will replace it at no charge to the homeowner. On the rare occasion that the issue was actually related to an installation error, our own BM Windows warranty kicks in to cover the repair or replacement.
