You hear a lot about Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings when searching for companies you are thinking about patronizing. But do you know what a BBB rating means and why it is important to know a company’s BBB rating before you hire them for a major project like window and door replacement?
Basically, a BBB rating determines whether or not a business is conducting itself in a trustworthy manner. The BBB does not assess the competency of a business, only that they make every effort to resolve customer complaints or disputes, should they come up. This is important, since purchasing replacement windows and doors involves people coming into your home and doing work that affects the value of this important asset. If anything goes wrong, you want to make sure that the San Diego replacement window company you are working with will do what it takes to make things right.
BBB ratings are determined by a formula that the organization has developed, which takes into account 17 objective factors such as:

- How long a company has been in business
- The number of complaints against the business (and how many of those are unanswered, unresolved or were resolved in a delayed manner)
- Whether or not the company has the proper licensing for their type of business
- If there are any issues with false or misleading advertising
According to the BBB’s website, “Nearly 85 percent of the scoring is determined by consumer-reported complaints that have been verified and evaluated by BBB, such as the number of complaints, the severity of complaints and how a business resolves complaints.”
Our BBB rating at BM Windows is an “A+”, which is the highest rating on the BBB scale. Companies are rated from A+ to F on the BBB website. If you see a replacement window and door company with an “NR” rating (meaning “no rating”), it isn’t necessarily a bad sign; it just means that the company is probably new, and the BBB does not yet have enough pertinent information on them to give them an accurate rating.
The BBB is a respected organization that has been around for a long time, so while their ratings only tell one piece of the story on a business like a replacement window and door company, their ratings should be a factor when deciding which San Diego company you want to work on your home.
If you are looking for a replacement window company that receives high ratings on all the major business sites, look no further than BM Windows.
