Window Warranty Series: Accidental Glass Breakage

Window warranties are all very specific in what they cover and what they don’t cover. For example, almost all manufacturers warranties will cover windows with defects for at least five to ten years, or for as long as two lifetimes. However, they may not cover things like damaged screens or window hardware that stops functioning properly.

Another thing window manufacturers may not cover is window glass that is accidentally broken after installation.

Here at BM Windows, we offer our own accidental glass breakage protection on all of the windows we sell and install. So, even if a window manufacturer doesn’t provide coverage if your glass is broken, BM Windows has you covered! We’ll replace your glass, even if the break was your fault (or your kid’s fault). We understand that accidents happen, and we want your windows to be fully covered and for you to have a lifetime of satisfaction with the windows you purchase from us.

What Exactly Is Covered

People tend to be cynical when it comes to warranties. They often assume that, even though it seems to say in the warranty that something is covered, there will be some hidden charge they’ll get slapped with when they have their window repaired. This isn’t the case with BM Windows. We cover all of the materials, as well as any labor required, at no additional cost to you. Really—the glass replacement is completely free! It’s one of the ways we take care of our customers long after we receive the final payment.

Limits on Our Accidental Glass Breakage Program

Like anything, there are limits to what we are able to cover with our accidental glass breakage program. For example, we will only replace up to four glass units per event. In addition, we don’t cover specialty glass, such as laminated or tempered glass, or windows larger than 5’x5’. But even with these limitations, probably more than 90% of the windows we install will be covered under our accidental glass breakage program.

We also are unable to cover glass that was broken due to acts of God. But fortunately for San Diego homeowners, we don’t see a lot of natural disasters in our area that would cause windows to break, unlike other areas of the country that see massive hailstorms or hurricanes.

We should also point out that we will only replace the glass on windows that were purchased from and installed by BM Windows. We get frequent calls and emails about replacing the glass in windows installed by other replacement window companies in San Diego, and unfortunately, we don’t offer this service, even for a fee. We can, however, recommend companies in the area that do.
