Buying replacement windows for your San Diego home comes with a lot of decisions—some large and some small. Some of the larger decisions you’ll need to make are what brand of replacement windows you will purchase and who you will hire to install them. (Fortunately, a San Diego replacement window company like BM Windows can help you with both of these decisions!)
Once you nail down these two things, there a several smaller decisions that will need to be made. Most of those smaller decisions have to do with optional upgrades that you can add to your new windows.
Before we begin discussing the available upgrades for replacement windows, we should note that none of the upgrades we offer at BM Windows are in any way necessary. This is because the replacement windows we sell come standard with all the elements needed to make your home more insulated, more secure, and improve its curb appeal. In other words, you don’t need to pay for any upgrades to get great windows for your home when you purchase any of the brands we sell at BM Windows. This even includes our more budget-friendly options!
This isn’t the case with replacement windows sold by some other replacement window companies in the area. Some companies sell what we would consider “cheap” windows that then require homeowners to purchase upgrades—often expensive upgrades—to end up with windows that meet their requirements. At BM Windows, we don’t like this approach. We prefer to offer quality products that don’t need upgrades to perform well.
All that being said, however, there are some homeowners who choose to upgrade their windows to further improve the performance or looks of their new windows. Here are some of the most popular upgrades our San Diego customers tend to choose and why you might want to consider them as well:
Upgraded Sound Suppression Technology
When you go from old single-pane windows to new double-pane windows, you will automatically notice a reduction in the amount of outside noise that enters your home, but customers who really want it quiet inside their homes often choose to upgrade the sound suppression technology in their new windows. This upgrade is great for people who live on busy streets, near the airport, or those who just like it extra quiet in their homes. Some customers choose to upgrade only their street-facing windows with noise reduction technology, but you can certainly add it to all your new windows!
At times, the Anlin brand of windows, which we sell at BM Windows, offers this as a free upgrade!
Upgraded Glass Packages
All the windows we sell at BM Windows do a great job of helping to insulate your home from the outside elements. Even if you only purchase windows with the standard glass packages, your San Diego home will be well protected from the heat and cold, as well as from harmful UV rays. However, if you want extra protection, we have upgrades for you! For example, with our best-selling Anlin replacement windows, you can upgrade the glass with their patented SunMatrix system, with four layers of low-E coating and extra UV protection. For added anti-glare protection, you could choose windows with the SunShield upgrade.
You could choose to upgrade the glass in every window in your home, or just those that are exposed to the afternoon sun, or those in rooms that get especially hot. Not sure what level of protection and insulation you need? We can certainly make recommendations for your specific San Diego home.
Here is an upgrade that is purely for looks! Some of our customers choose to add decorative grids to the glass in their new windows to add some architectural interest to their homes. This upgrade is great if you have what some would call a “cookie cutter” home that looks very similar to other homes in your neighborhood. Window grids can help your home stand out and improve its curb appeal. Decorative grids can also enhance a home’s existing style. For example, if you have a traditional home, adding windows with grids in a Colonial pattern can reinforce the traditional nature of the home.
If you’re not sure what grid pattern would look best in your specific San Diego home, one of the window experts at BM Windows can help!
In-Glass Pet Doors
Here’s a great option for San Diego pet owners—in-glass pet doors. Whether you are installing sliding patio doors, French hinged doors, or French sliding doors in your San Diego home, you can choose to add a pet door right in the glass of one of the doors! The high-quality pet doors we sell are extremely convenient and can save you from having to cut a hole in a section of your wall for a pet door.
Our customers who are pet owners love this option and tell us that their pets love it too! You can learn more about pet doors here: In-glass pet doors
Never Any Pressure to Upgrade!
As we list all of these upgrade options, we hope you aren’t thinking that our sales team will try to “upsell” you on a bunch of features you don’t need or want in your new windows or doors, because this is never the case at BM Windows!
While other companies might try to pressure you into spending more money than you’re comfortable with by “encouraging” you to purchase all types of upgrades that you may not even benefit from, our team is focused on helping you select the windows with the features that are best for you and your family—based on your needs and your budget.
We will certainly make you aware of any upgrades that we think you might enjoy, but we will never put pressure on you to buy them. And as we stated before, our replacement windows and doors come standard with many great features, so there is really no need to upgrade unless you want to.
