New businesses pop up in San Diego every day, and occasionally one of them is a replacement window company. We don’t mind the competition—there’s plenty of work to go around, with more than a million housing units in San Diego County. But we want to caution people who are considering hiring a replacement window company that hasn’t been around very long.
It’s not that a new replacement window company will do poor work—many of them are started by people who have been in the industry for a long time and know what they’re doing. The problem is that new companies often don’t stick around for very long. This doesn’t appear to be a problem on the surface, and you’re probably thinking, “Why do I care if the replacement window company I hire goes out of business? I’m only going to replace my windows once.”

Here’s the issue: if anything ever goes wrong with your windows down the road, you want to have a local company to call. Yes, you could call the window manufacturer and make a warranty claim, but unfortunately, the typical response is no response. Or the manufacturer will make you wait weeks or even months before they come out to do your repairs. On the other hand, if you call the San Diego replacement window dealer who installed your windows, they can deal with the manufacturer on your behalf for any warranty issues. The replacement window dealers speak their language. They can communicate the exact problem to the manufacturer and speed the entire process along. Manufacturers are typically more responsive to window dealers because they provide the company with more business than a single homeowner.
We recently had a situation come up with a past customer that illustrates the importance of being able to call your San Diego replacement window dealer if a problem arises. We had installed replacement windows in a customer’s home nine years ago and they began having problems with a couple of them. Even though we only sell high-quality products to our customers, nothing is perfect. Occasionally a defect will pop up. When we went to the customer’s home to see what the problem was, they told us they were pleased to find out that we were still in business nine years later, since other home improvement companies they had worked with had long since closed their doors.
We were able to work with the window manufacturer to get their faulty windows replaced at no charge to the homeowner. They were thrilled with their new windows and that we were willing to deal with the manufacturer on their behalf.
The moral of this story is that this customer would have had a very different experience if they had used a San Diego replacement window company that had gone out of business. They would have been on their own to deal with the manufacturer and they probably would have had to wait much longer than they did for an installer from the manufacturer to come out and replace their faulty windows.
When you’re looking for a San Diego replacement window company, we recommend that you look for one that has been in business for a considerable length of time and also make sure you ask them how they handle warranty issues.
