Energy Efficiency Tax Credits Expiring this Year
We also wanted to remind you that the 2012-2013 tax credit for replacement windows and doors provided via the “American Taxpayer Relief Act” will be expiring at the end of the year. These tax credits also apply to energy efficient improvements beyond retrofit windows and doors. To learn more about federal tax credits for energy efficient replacement windows you can read our article from March of this year.
Replacement Low Profile Window Trends
Lastly, we wanted to share a trend we’ve noticed lately. Low profile vinyl windows, also referred to as “slim frame” windows, have been gaining popularity this year. For example, Anlin has a newer low profile product line that looks very nice. Although low profile vinyl windows have been around for a few years, we’re starting to notice more homeowners asking for them. With low profile windows, you get less frame area and more viewable area (glass). So the viewing area is larger, which is especially beneficial on smaller windows. We expect the trend will continue and we’ll be installing a growing number of low profile replacement windows in 2014.
