We know that warranties have gotten a bad reputation over the years. With all of the “extended warranty” scam calls that were going on a few years ago, as well as warranties that don’t actually offer any real coverage, people tend to be wary when they hear about warranties.
It’s true—some warranties offer more value than others. Some are worth only the paper they’re printed on, while others can save you thousands of dollars if you use the coverage.
When it comes to buying replacement windows, we highly encourage homeowners to purchase windows with a good warranty. This means purchasing windows that come with a lifetime warranty from a manufacturer that has a good reputation for standing behind their products, as well as warranty on the installation.
For most homeowners, when they discover an issue with one of their replacement windows, they will assume there is a flaw with the window itself. They will initiate a warranty claim with the manufacturer. The manufacturer will likely send someone out to assess the issue. What they often find is that there is no issue with the window itself and how the window was manufactured. Instead, the problem stems from how the window was installed. The manufacturer will then deny the warranty claim, stating that they are not at fault.
Now, could the manufacturer be lying and just not wanting to take responsibility for a faulty product? Maybe. But more likely, they really aren’t responsible for the problems with the window. How can we say this? Because we know that many, many replacement window jobs in San Diego are performed by people who are not experts in window installation. They are completed by general construction laborers without specialized training with replacement windows.

If the homeowner who filed the claim with the manufacturer didn’t work with a company like BM Windows for window replacement, which offers an installation warranty, they are pretty much out of luck at this point. Their options are to live with a window that doesn’t function properly, pay out of their own pocket to have it fixed or replaced altogether, or try to get the installer to fix the problem. Unfortunately, none of these are great options, unless they can somehow convince the installer to fix things for free (which is probably not going to happen).
If you’re in this situation now, there’s not much that can be done. But if you’re still in the process of researching companies for window replacement in San Diego, there is definitely something you can do to prevent this situation from happening: work with a window replacement company that offers an installation warranty!
At BM Windows, you don’t pay any extra for our lifetime installation warranty. It comes standard with every purchase!
What does our installation warranty cover? It covers all of the parts and labor used in the installation of the windows you purchased from us. If an issue pops up that was a result of an installation error on our part, we’ll fix it at no cost to you. Even if a problem shows up many years after your windows are installed, we will still take responsibility and take care of the issue. Without a warranty like this, you would just have to hope that the installers on your job will do the right thing and fix the problem they caused.
